In this section of the Acts of the Apostles, Paul is speaking to the elders from the church of Ephesus – a church he planted. He is letting them know that he is going to Jerusalem, and will never see them again. The Holy Spirit has told Paul that he was going on a one-way journey, and that death waited for him around the bend.
How can he so confidently purge himself from any blame? I think that the Apostle Paul was content that he did what he could do. It's not as if he didn't warn them! He spent his entire life after his life-changing trip to Damascus preaching the word and telling everyone that would listen about the Lord Jesus.
Read Paul’s words again: “I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.”
Everything he was able to tell them, he told them. Nothing was held back, because Paul knew that his commission was to go and tell. Oh, if only all of us followed the Great Commission as completely as this man did!
Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. (Acts 20:31b)
Can you imagine what impact we could have on this world if we each did the same? Has the world ever needed to hear this more than it does right now?
