for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies. (Psalm 25:15)
I love this verse – keeping your eyes on the Lord is the key. When I read this, I immediately wonder who the enemy is that David is speaking of here - Saul, Absalom, or someone else? Of course, the more important question is - who is my enemy?
I know that Satan is an enemy, but honestly, I am a much more dangerous and prevalent enemy in my own life than he is. My flesh is always trying to trip me up!
Regardless of what you might see on TV, Satan is not all-knowing or all-powerful. There is no 'struggle' going on between God and Satan. Lucifer can do only and precisely what God allows him to do. I mean, let’s not forget - it’s not as if there is any chance of him winning – that battle has already been won!
For sure, Satan is the one who 'plants weeds in the garden'. But then he leaves them and moves on.... My flesh is always here with me!
But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. (Matthew 13:25)
To be clear – the devil is not inside us believers – there is no way he could co-exist with the Spirit that dwells within us. He may try and put temptations in our way, but honestly (and to my shame) I do that just fine all by myself far too often.
Keeping my eyes on the Lord rescues me from all my enemies, because it takes my eyes and my mind off of myself and the world around me, and focuses them where it matters.
