For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. (Ephesians 6:12-13)
Now please understand: I’m not saying Las Vegas in and of itself is evil, or that anyone that likes this city is evil. Everyone is different, and I know good fellow believers that can have fun walking in and blowing some money at the slot machines. Or people that just come to enjoy the various shows and great food, and so on… The bottom line is that this particular city is just not for me.
Anyway, back to our text. Whether in ‘Sin City’, back home in Georgia, or wherever you call home, there are unseen enemies all around us. I absolutely believe that there is a whole world that we don’t see, where demons and angels not only exist, but actively engage in our lives. The truth is, if we saw what rages on around us, we could call anyplace 'Sin City'!
I also believe that the only way we stand a chance against both the seen and unseen evil that surrounds us is through holding firm to the Word of God and having the Holy Spirit guiding us.
The battle is not ours to win – Jesus already took care of that! Our job is to hold to the promises that He fulfilled, and keep His Word ready at all times to defend ourselves. So onward Christian soldiers! Let’s be ready when the attack comes, that we might stand firm in our Savior!
