The Dung Gate was repaired by Malkijah son of Rekab, ruler of the district of Beth Hakkerem. (Nehemiah 3:14a)
Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. (Collosians 4:12a)
People that seem just like the everyday sort that happen to be around these giants of the faith are still recognized for their contribution to the Kingdom. Yes, even the guy who was assigned the job of repairing the broken-down Dung Gate in Jerusalem is given special recognition. I find this truly amazing that God calls out so many people in His Book.
But there is also another book – and I believe that book is also getting names added to it every day. Some names perhaps giants of the faith – men like Martin Luther, John Wesley, or Billy Graham perhaps. But there are also other names – maybe the guy that fixed your plumbing last month, or the lady that watches over the children in your church nursery.
These every day people are not famous, and honestly go forgotten by many of us, just like people like Malkijah or Epaphras in the Bible. But whether you are preaching to thousands or repairing the Dung Gate, your work matters to His Kingdom. And the names of all His faithful servants will appear in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name. (Malachi 3:16b)
