Sometimes when I’m right on the cusp of sleep, my body will do this weird involuntary twitch and jolt me back to a state of being fully awake again. Other times, I might be just sitting in a theater, at church or home and get a sudden tingle up my spine out of nowhere. Then there are times when a sneeze or yawn seem to hit me out of the blue - has this ever happened to you?
There are times when our bodies don’t follow what our heads want and expect - but 99% of the time (for most of us) our bodies perform surprisingly well - doing what we want, when we want it.
The Body of Christ should work the same way. We should follow the Will of the Head - that is Christ. Of course, since none of us are perfect, it will not be 100% of the time, but it should also not be 50%! Imagine if your body only performed to your desire half of the time, and the other half seemed to do things completely contrary to your will… You wouldn’t get much accomplished, and would likely find yourself in big trouble.
Indeed, when we pray, “Thy Will be done” do we take responsibility for following His Will? And when we pray “Thy Kingdom come” do we see it is our actions in following the Will of Christ that prepare the way for His Kingdom?
But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:27)
