We always hear that spending time in prayer and the Word will do that, and I’m certainly not going to argue that point. However, I believe there is something else of almost equal importance that draws us closer to God, as well.
There are those around us who require additional attention and care. Some know Jesus as Lord already, and some do not. Whether poor, widowed, orphaned, disabled in some way, or hurting – we must show them the love of Christ.
“Those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty” (1 Corinthians 12:22-23)
Paul refers to what we might call our “private parts” as an analogy…. There are body parts that would never be uncovered in public even on the hottest days (or at least would be covered by people with a sense of propriety). The analogy is that in the same way some parts of our body need extra coverage, there are members of our human race that need extra care, special handling and attention.
I cannot think of a greater legacy than for someone to be able to say that we showed love to those who need it most. Let 2019 be the year we make it real!
Whoever heard me spoke well of me,
and those who saw me commended me,
because I rescued the poor who cried for help,
and the fatherless who had none to assist them.
The one who was dying blessed me;
I made the widow’s heart sing.
I put on righteousness as my clothing;
justice was my robe and my turban.
I was eyes to the blind
and feet to the lame.
I was a father to the needy;
I took up the case of the stranger. (Job 29:11-16)
