Handwriting can tell us a lot about a person…
Most of us have seen the big, bold signature of John Hancock on the Declaration of Independence. This is very possibly the most famous signature in U.S. History. Legend states that he signed his name bigger than everyone else’s so that the “fat old King could read it without his spectacles”. It seems he wanted to make a statement that could be neither ignored or denied.
Christ signed His signature in blood - in a way so audacious and big that nobody could ignore it! In fact, His signature was so bold that it ‘wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us’. He took all of our sins, nailed them to that old rugged cross, and negated them all when He signed His own bloody John Hancock for the world to see.
And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:14b – 15)
