When Judas left to betray our Lord, he did the evil deed in the dark. I would suggest that when we are betraying Him, we also typically try and hide in the dark. We don’t want the world to see our sin, and we seem to think that darkness will also hide it from God, which is clearly wrong.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you. (Psalm 139:11-12)
There is a way to conquer the evil that lurks in the dark. The recipe for this is shown to us by Jesus Himself:
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. (Mark 1:35)
We seek the dark to betray, but we can subdue it when we pray! When we bow our heads and our hearts to the Risen One, we summon the Light of the World to shine into all the dark places. Sin and evil cannot remain in the Light of Jesus. Every sinful thought and deed will disappear as the shadows they are when the full Light of Truth shines upon them.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. (Ephesians 5:8-11)
Nothing destroys darkness better than the Light of the World!
