in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)
When God created everything at the beginning of history, it was all “very good”. That included humans!
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31)
He created humans differently than the plants and animals – He created us in His image. This means we are more like the Father than anything else in the created world. When Adam and Eve were first put on this earth, they had perfect fellowship with God. This is what we were created for!
Another part of making us in His image was to give us a wonderful gift called free will. It was with free will that humans made the choice to put fellowship with God at risk in the attempt to become their own gods. This choice quite literally broke everything.
Everything - plants and animals, even the very soil was changed. The human race was also forever changed by that choice. The man and woman who were first created to be in beautiful fellowship with God were now born in sin and selfishness.
Only when we take our selfish will and bend it towards our Creator do we achieve glimpses of who we were meant to be. When we return to our First Love - our Creator and Savior Jesus - we become a better version of ourselves and move closer to who we were meant to be.
