so a friend sharpens a friend. (Proverbs 27:17)
To successfully arrive at Cheeseburger Paradise (where you can eat all the cheeseburgers you want and never gain a pound), you must pass safely through the “Cave of Endless Horrors”. This terrifying place is filled with booby traps, snakes, spiders, and worst of all - the dreaded Cavern of 1,000 Mimes!
If you are unfortunate enough to stumble into this cavern of your worst nightmare come true, you will be surrounded by the horrifying white painted faces - being trapped in unseen boxes… or forever climbing up and down non-existent stairs… or being pulled back and forth with an invisible rope... Oh the horror!!
Now I ask - would you rather go it alone and hope to make it through unscathed, or follow the tracks of someone that had already made it through the hidden traps and ‘landmimes’ safely at least once before?
Regardless of years on this earth, each of us needs a mentor and guide to help navigate the challenges of life and avoid many of the pitfalls that can so easily entangle us. And then, once you've made it through some of these yourself, you should in turn do your part to help others that are newer to the path find their way along.
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 3:12)
That's also what Solomon suggests in the verse above from Ecclesiastes. And we know he was only the wisest man….ever! That's also what the Apostle Paul did – as a new disciple, he had Barnabas as his guide, and soon after, he began mentoring Timothy.
Find a godly man or woman that can help you avoid the traps and temptations of this life, and then find someone newer in their walk of faith that you can also guide. This is a basic principle of discipleship that is too often ignored, to our detriment.
Oh, and beware the landmimes!
