Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8)
Have you ever been to a forest? I’m not talking about man-made pseudo-nature. Not like going apple-picking, where the orchard has nice neat rows separating the Golden Delicious and Rome Beauties. These are not forests, they’re too structured, functional, safe – almost clinical.
A real forest is unstructured magnificence with a threat lying under the surface. There is the potential of twisted ankles or wild animals, lurking as close as your next step. A real forest breeds awe and respect – born from knowing it: 1) is out of your control, and 2) has an element of danger…. In this way, it is much like God.
This analogy of man-made vs. God-made has other comparisons - for example:
God showers His rain down to nourish and give life, and His Design of nature responds with blooms and beauty and good things. God showers His rain on man-made structures, like sidewalks, roads, and bridges - which we have designed to capture this gift from the heavens and channel… straight into the gutter.
This is a lot like my thoughts, which take good things and capture them and channel them into the gutter that is my fleshly desires. My imagination brings out the worst of me, missing Gods flavor. It is only through His eyes that I see all the bright and wonderful colors that are there – my flesh turns every color gray, every taste bland…
It is through ‘tasting’ God – spending time with Him; speaking to Him about my life; learning more about Him; basically doing all the things that are required to build any relationship – that I can ‘see’ how good He truly is.
Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. (Psalm 62:1)
