Sound ridiculous? I hope so! Why would I ‘hope’ for something that I already have? I can type (quite well, actually); and I have a computer…what would be the point of hoping for that which I already have? This is the point that the Apostle Paul makes when he states “hope that is seen is not hope”.
When we hope for something, it is something we do not yet possess. I hope to see all my children turn into God-fearing adults and have productive and blessed lives, but that is a future event. I don’t hope to see my children born, because that’s already happened.
But there is a hope that is greater than all of these. A hope that we do not yet see, but we are confident in, nonetheless.
For we were saved in hope, but hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for that which he sees? But if we hope for that which we don’t see, we wait for it with patience. (Romans 8:24-25)
When we are saved by believing in the spilled blood, broken body, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we have hope in His promises. We have hope that we will see Him face-to-face. We have hope that His Spirit will come to us and begin changing us into the person that only He can make us. We have hope that He will bring us to live with Him in a new place where there is no more pain, suffering, fear, or death.
We don’t see this yet, but we hope and have confidence that it is coming, so we wait patiently for our Savior to fulfill every promise. And that is a true hope that you can trust in!
NOTE TO READERS: First of all, thank you so much for taking a few minutes to read this! Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, and a very much looked forward to vacation, I will not be posting at all next week. Please have a very blessed holiday, and remember the One whom we have to thank for our many, many blessings!
