Life is full of ups and downs – pleasure and pain; good times and bad. Would a loving husband leave his sick and struggling wife? Would a loving woman leave her good husband because he’s struggling in his job? I hope we would agree this is not how we would expect good and loving spouses to react.
It’s the same with our relationship with Christ. The strongest marriages I know are people that cling tightly to each other through the hard times… in the same way, the strongest Christians I know are the ones that cling tightly to the Lord during the toughest situations.
Most of us have heard (or perhaps spoken) the traditional wedding vows at some point:
“For better or for worse
For richer, for poorer
In sickness and in health
To love and to cherish
from this day forward until death do us part”
Marriage vows symbolize our relationship with Christ the Bridegroom. When you make this commitment to your spouse-to-be, you are mirroring the relationship Christ wants with you.
