I’m not going to try and talk you into or out of a particular candidate, although I do strongly believe we should vote, and we should find candidates that are as close as possible to our beliefs (which can be difficult). What I do want to say, however, is that there are two things we can be absolutely sure of, in this unsure world of elections and political bashing.
First – regardless of what happens during this election cycle, our God is in control. If the person you like wins or loses, know that the election results were allowed by our King.
Second – remember that we are not to rest our hopes on a man, whether he be a Presidential contender, professional sports star, or father/husband/son/friend. Remember what God proclaimed so clearly in Psalm 146:
Do not put your trust in princes,
Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
His spirit departs, he returns to his earth;
In that very day his plans perish.
Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help,
Whose hope is in the Lord his God
A mere mortal cannot give everlasting life – that comes only through the spilt blood of Jesus, the One True King! And why do we put our hope in God and not man? Let’s review our God – who He is and what He does:
Who made heaven and earth,
The sea, and all that is in them;
Who keeps truth forever,
Who executes justice for the oppressed,
Who gives food to the hungry.
What does the Lord do for His 'constituents'?
The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners.
The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;
The Lord raises those who are bowed down;
The Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the strangers;
He relieves the fatherless and widow
But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.
Yes! Only our true, good, and holy Ruler can do this!
The Lord shall reign forever--
Your God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise the Lord!
