“He (Joshua) is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.” (Numbers 27:21)
The Lord tells Joshua and Eleazar to “inquire of the Urim before God” for their decisions. Am I suggesting that we do this? Well, yes and no.
Yes, I’m suggesting we should bring our requests and decisions before God… and no, I’m not suggesting we dig up information on what a Urim is, find a Jewish priest, and follow the directions as specifically laid out in the Old Testament. You see, unlike Joshua and Eleazar, we have a New Testament…
Instead of these measures, we should instead raise our requests and decisions up to Jesus. Our High Priest and Intercessor will bring our petitions to the Father. When you are making big decisions, it’s important to ask for guidance from the All-Knowing One.
