The beggar responded angrily, saying; “Bread and cheese? I’m not eating that! And coffee without cream and sugar? I don’t think so! You can keep the blanket, as well - I was expecting something less scratchy than wool!”
Ungrateful? Yes. Hard to imagine – maybe not.
Our Savior offers each of us eternal life – no sickness, sorrow, or tears - if we will only accept His Perfect Sacrifice and follow Him. We often respond with disrespect, wanting to name our own terms. Instead of humbling ourselves, we seek to compare ourselves to others. As if the fact that someone else sins in one way and we in another is going to be justification to allow us entry into the King’s Courtyard!
Sin is binary. There is sin, and there is no sin – there is no in-between here!
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:8)
And the Bible is clear that only the one with no sin can be in the presence of God. That means none of us can be in God’s presence based on our own worth.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)
There is only one way to be justified and made free of sin, and that is through Jesus’ work on the cross.
All are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:24)
Don’t claim the riches of this world, that are completely useless in the next!
You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. (Revelation 3:17)
Claim the precious Blood of Christ, and enjoy God’s riches forever!
I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. (Revelation 3:18)
