From almost the very beginning of our existence, the devil has been trying to turn us away from God. Here was a ‘very good’ creation, but Satan was allowed to come into it and start causing trouble, and he won’t stop until God finally throws him into the Lake of Fire.
In the book of Matthew, Jesus used the analogy of farming:
Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
“The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
“‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ (Matthew 13:24-28)
This reminds us of the world we live in – there are the saints (wheat) and the rest (weeds). It’s really that simple.
“‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’” (Matthew 13:29 – 30)
Our job is to lift Jesus up so He can turn more of the weeds into wheat! If all of those who don’t believe today (weeds) get ‘pulled out’, they would never have the chance to hear and accept the Good News of Jesus.
Since the Garden of Eden, Satan has been trying to sow weeds into the Lord’s Garden, and he continues to this day. So we must never tire of lifting up Jesus, so the weeds can have every opportunity to be saved from the fire.
The real question is - are you wheat or weed?
