they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity
and their years in contentment. (Job 36:11)
This is young Elihu speaking to Job, and he really misses the point… Contrast his statement to Jesus’ promise of tribulation.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Our prosperity is not measured in the currency of gold or paper money, but in blessings. Those we receive, and those we share with others. Time is also a precious commodity, and how we spend that often says even more about our heart than what we spend our money on.
We know that many believers live and die in poverty in this world’s economy; yet they are exceedingly rich in the kingdom of God. Those of us who are blessed materially in this world are meant to use it as a blessing to others.
Don’t selfishly use the riches of this world building your personal fiefdom. Rather, invest in the work of the Father, showing others the way to Jesus Christ and the true riches that will last for eternity.
Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.” (Revelation 19:9)
