God is 100% pure - 100% perfect. We are called to emulate Him as best as we can in this broken world.
Everything is broken in this world – EVERYTHING. The perfect face has a broken mind; the perfect mind has a broken body. The perfect island paradise is laden with crime, or suffers under the thumb of a crooked government. We all fall short of the goal, and not just once but over and over and over again – there isn’t a person on this earth that isn’t damaged goods.
All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one. (Romans 3:12)
Yes, we are broken – but once we become part of God’s family, we are then called to ‘treasure hunt’ for other broken jars of clay like ourselves, so we can present them to the great Potter who makes everything new!
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” (Revelation 21:5a)
We are not yet who we will be, but as children of the King we know this is a temporary state. We know a day is coming when we finally see who we are meant to be; living in a world that we are meant to be in!
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:2-3)
This is the hope that should help us to fight against our flesh and the evil of this world, to live as pure as we can for the One who saved us, and calls us His own.
