The Tree of Life was in Eden, but Genesis doesn’t say that Adam and Eve ever ate from it. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil is the one that they partook of (the knuckleheads):
And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” (Genesis 3:22)
Adam and Eve lost access to the Tree of Life after the fall, because they had chosen the path of sin and death. So - God handed them their walking papers and put up guards to keep them from entering, until the Great Flood eventually came and wiped everything out.
But Christ came to defeat death and restore us into the eternal kingdom of our Lord. You see, the Tree of Life wasn’t destroyed in the Flood; it was set aside until the time comes when we can once again gain access to it through the work of our Savior.
To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God. (Revelation 2:7b)
