Psalm 101 seems fitting as we see division, protests, riots, looting, hatred and lawlessness abound. We have uncertainty in nearly every area of our lives – our health, our families, our work – our world. Our lives and our homes should be filled with praise to God now more than ever.
1 I will sing of your love and justice, Lord.
I will praise you with songs.
2 I will be careful to live a blameless life--
when will you come to help me?
I will lead a life of integrity
in my own home.
Now is the time for the people of Christ to turn away from the ugliness that surrounds us, and to be examples of integrity, truth, and kindness.
3 I will refuse to look at
anything vile and vulgar.
I hate all who deal crookedly;
I will have nothing to do with them.
We must reject the evil that permeates our culture. We must avoid the gossip and judgmental thoughts and words that come so easily to mind.
4 I will reject perverse ideas
and stay away from every evil.
5 I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors.
I will not endure conceit and pride.
It is past time for us to seek out like-minded brothers and sisters in faith. It’s time to serve our communities and show them the love of Christ through our actions.
6 I will search for faithful people
to be my companions.
Only those who are above reproach
will be allowed to serve me.
We must seek to protect our loved ones from this broken world, even as we reach into the masses with actions that speak truth to the hurting, that bring joy to the mourning. We must be that truth, so Christ’s immutable Truth will be heard over all the lies. We must choose to serve and be served with the joy of our Eternal Love leading the way.
7 I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house,
and liars will not stay in my presence.
Now more than ever is the time to be a daily light, shining brightly into the darkest places. We must expose the evil of this world, freeing those enslaved to wickedness, and pointing them to the only perfect Cure for their (and our own) brokenness.
8 My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked
and free the city of the Lord from their grip.
Sounds like a great Thanksgiving recipe to add to your holiday this year!
