What do you sow? Sowing to the flesh means you focus on this world and this life. Flesh deteriorates over time and is corrupt (I can prove this in my own life). Are you pouring all your time and energy into your job, or on running a marathon? There is nothing wrong with either of these, or many other pursuits, as long as they are kept in the proper perspective.
The Holy Spirit is eternal and gives life to those He inhabits. Sowing to the Spirit means we are focusing on the eternal – are you charitable with your time, money and resources? Are you showing and telling people how great your God is, and what He’s done for you? Are you leading those close to you to be closer to Him?
Our lives are just a vapor. James 4:14 says, “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”
You and I could die this very day – what would we have to show for it beyond this life? Will our works be of the flesh and disappear when we are gone, or will they be of the Spirit and remembered throughout eternity?
Sowing in the morning sowing seeds of kindness
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve
Waiting for the harvest and the time of reaping
We shall come rejoicing bringing in the sheaves
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. (Galatians 6:9)
