Now I love my country, and have no desire to live anywhere else - but in reality I believe I could live and be happy elsewhere, because I know that this is not my home. Whether I’m touring the Philippines or safe at home in Georgia, I’m ultimately just a traveler…. You see, my final destination is neither of these places – in fact, it’s not even on this earth (yet)!
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20)
Yes, I have a ‘dual citizenship’. I am a citizen of this world, but my true home is in heaven. Since I’m only traveling through this land, I guess you could call me a tourist. And of course, as a tourist, I am bound to be on the lookout for souvenirs!
We all know that souvenirs are something you get while traveling, and bring home with you to help you remember the good times you had during your travels. What do you suppose I should look for on this earth that I can bring with me to my home in heaven?
That’s right, I can bring all those that I tell about Christ! I realize that I cannot “save” anyone – but I can help to bring them to Christ – in fact, it’s my job!
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
So while I’m touring the Philippines, and when I’m home in the States, I will be looking for souvenirs. I hope you are looking for your own souvenirs to take with you, when we all go to our glorious Home in Heaven!
