All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
When someone says how ridiculous it is for me to believe in ‘fairy tales’, I remember that I said the same thing before Christ saved me (to my shame). I also remember that after the Holy Spirit stirred my heart, it all seemed so obviously true.
The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. As the Scriptures say,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”
So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. (1 Corinthians 1:18-21)
How can it be that if you really know God is here with you, you still act as if you’re alone? Or to say it another way: If you wouldn't do something when your spouse / parent / friend was with you, but will do it when you are ‘alone’ with God there, do you really believe He is there? And if you do believe God is there, shouldn’t you realize you are never actually alone? How might that change your outlook on things?
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)
I wonder why many of the people that seem to be leaning towards God – meaning they say they ‘believe’ in Him, but don’t live a life that shows it – never seem to grow closer; while others who seem completely distant and set against God and openly demean those who believe, later become very strong followers of Christ.
I was found by people who were not looking for me.
I showed myself to those who were not asking for me.” (Romans 10:20b)
I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. (Revelation 3:15-16)
