When even our very best deeds are like nothing more than filthy rags to the Great I AM?
But we are all like an unclean thing,
And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;
We all fade as a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind,
Have taken us away. (Isaiah 64:6)
If so, then I can only say that we are not describing the God I read about; He is too Holy for us to even begin to comprehend. We know that there are none righteous among us - not one of us is truly good, other than the perfect and righteous Christ.
As it is written:
“There is none righteous, no, not one;
There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God. (Romans 3:10-11)
Our efforts to honor God fall so very short of His Holiness. Yet we seek not our own unworthy ‘righteous’ deeds, but the perfect work of Christ moving through us as willing vessels.
If you worship one you can adequately describe within the boundaries of human language, then may I suggest your god is too small? My God is unfathomable, and beyond human understanding - I sincerely hope yours is, as well!
