Of course, here they are totally unprepared for even a small amount of winter weather (which, by the way, has a lot to do with why I moved here!), so it is understandable that this rare occurrence causes such a stir.
However, regardless of where you live, or what is common or unusual weather, we can all relate to Psalm 19:
The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world. (Psalm 19:1-4b)
Regardless of the weather at the location you currently find yourself, know that when you look up at the sky, you are seeing God’s glory proclaimed. His craftsmanship is on display at my house, in that every snowflake is unique (just as it is on display in that every person made in His image is unique).
As David states in Psalm 19, although the skies may be speaking ‘day after day’ and ‘night after night’, they do it silently. And truly, there is something especially silent about a snowfall, isn’t there? Who but God can come up with something so beautiful, creative, and yet potentially dangerous at the same time?
While I love looking at the snow, I have to admit that I’m ready to move on to the next section of Psalm 19!
God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding.
It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.
The sun rises at one end of the heavens
and follows its course to the other end.
Nothing can hide from its heat. (Psalm 19:4b-6)
Come on sunshine, let’s see what you have to say!
