I think it was the afternoon on Saturday when we started realizing we were in for trouble… as the sun started slowly descending in the chilly sky, it became clear there was a good possibility of a second night without power, in a house that was steadily growing colder. We were running a fireplace, but a small fire in the living room was hardly going to keep our whole house comfortably warm.
My daughter correctly dubbed this as #FirstWorldProblems. We are so incredibly blessed here, what most of the world would consider standard operating procedure, we call a near disaster…
The good and bad news: Towards the end of the day Saturday, tempers started growing shorter, and everyone had their brief moments to whine and complain. However, we also went through that short phase to band together as a family, suck it up, and make the best of a bad situation.
When the power came back on, you can bet there was much rejoicing. The shouts of ‘Thank you God!’ were truly beautiful to hear. It’s in these moments that we realize both how blessed we are, and how reliant on our good and loving Father we remain.
Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me. (Psalm 63:3-8)
