So why do you say to me,
“Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety! (Psalm 11)
Because of the surety that life will have both ups and downs, the Psalms are a wonderful place to go for encouragement. The Psalm quoted above was written by David – a man that saw both undeserved persecution and incredible blessings. He recognized that instead of trying to run away from the troubles of life, he should rest securely in the promises of God.
When you are wore down by the trials of this life, remember what God tells the prophet Isaiah:
For those who follow godly paths
will rest in peace when they die. (Isaiah 57:2)
We are promised peace and rest when the struggle of this life is over. However, those who do not rest on the promises in this life cannot look forward to eternal rest, as just a few verses later God says:
There is no rest for the wicked. (Isaiah 57:21)
This is a promise that can be trusted: the good will find rest in God; so don’t be afraid when things fall apart!
