As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. (Luke 9:51)
Every step of Passion week was leading Jesus toward a certain death that He could choose to avoid and did not deserve. Yet love drove Him resolutely forward.
How much would you have to love someone to walk towards your own death for them? Would you do it boldly, day after day, never wavering in your commitment?
We honor Christ for His Sacrifice. We know we did not deserve what He did for us, and that we could never do it on our own.
When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. (Romans 5:6)
Jesus so wanted to please His Father. He so wanted to spend eternity with us. Jesus came to restore what Adam and every sinful person after him had broken.
For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. (Romans 5:10)
Jesus was resolute in completing His mission: to remove the shame of our sin and the sting of death that we deserved.
So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:21)
All praise and honor and glory to our Lord and Savior, who conquered Death and the Grave by resolutely pushing on to the Cross and finishing the work set out for Him.
He is risen, indeed! And because He lives, we also can live through Him.
Hallelujah and Happy Easter!
