and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
And after my skin has been destroyed,
yet in my flesh I will see God;
I myself will see him
with my own eyes—I, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me! (Job 19:25-27)
Job, that great man of faith, lost his land, livestock, and children in a single day. His wife had given up on him, and finally his health failed. But Job will not be shaken. Though he complains to God about his plight, Job also remains steadfast in his faith.
This is a great lesson to us. When our health falters, there is still a reason to rejoice. When death takes a loved one to the grave, we can have peace. When those we thought were our friends turn against us, we can maintain our hope.
Our Redeemer lives, and one day we will see Him face-to-face! While Job’s heart ached, he was still worshipping his Lord. He didn’t understand what was happening or why, yet still he worshipped God.
This world sows trouble as well as good. What happens to us can sometimes feel like more than we can handle. Like Job, we must remember:
I know that my redeemer lives,
and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
And after my skin has been destroyed,
yet in my flesh I will see God
