and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
No one calls on your name
or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden your face from us
and have given us over to our sins. (Isaiah 64:6-7)
We are all sinful and not a single one of us deserves mercy. We so easily forget we are but a breath, or as Isaiah says a leaf that will quickly shrivel up and blow away. We are so full of ourselves, so lacking in mercy, so forgetful of our Creator.
We must remember the goodness of our God and beg for Him to save us as only He can. Our Savior has brought us a victory that we could never attain on our own. We must recognize the futility of our own strength and rely on the One who never fails.
God is asking for us to return - will we listen or continue to rebel?
Before they call I will answer;
while they are still speaking I will hear. (Isaiah 65:24)
