Moses is instructing the Israelites to remember the miracles and blessings of the Lord when they’ve come into the promised land. We need the same admonishment. In your plenty, in your blessings - don’t forget to be grateful and follow God’s commands! It can all be taken away in a moment.
When we are in the midst of plenty; when blessings abound; when we are at the very peak of the mountaintop of life – that is the time when it is easiest to forget the very One who placed us there. And forgetting the One who put you there is the quickest way to drop from the mountain and return to the valley.
When we remember the blessings, and remember the Creator of all good things, we are more likely to not only appreciate our surroundings but continue pursuing Him. The more closely we abide in Christ, the more likely we remain both in His Will and in His Blessings.
He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ Remember the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 8:17-18)
