Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” (John 18:37)
Make no mistake - we killed our King that fateful day on the hill of Golgotha. Also make no mistake that WE killed Him. Yes, we can blame the Roman government or their soldiers; or perhaps the Pharisees and their minions; but what put the Messiah on that cross was nothing less than His desire for you and me.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)
Jesus came to this earth for one reason – He knew we could never get to Him without Him first coming down to us. Our rituals and sacrifices could never cover the deep stain of our many sins. We needed a perfect human sacrifice to cover our bad choices. Jesus came to us in the flesh to show us a Greater Love.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)
We are blessed to be His servants. He did what we could not when He took the sin of the world on Himself that dark and beautiful day on that hill outside Jerusalem. But it was not to add more servants to His household, but to save His friends!
“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15)
Come to the Friend who is like no other. The One and Only God-Man who saved the world because of His love for us!
