This was written to try and show God’s Chosen People that God’s Chosen Vessel for Salvation had come in response to and fulfillment of the prophecies that were read in their Synagogue. The author wastes no time, as his introduction gets straight to the heart of the matter:
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. (Hebrews 1:1-2)
One doesn’t have to read between the lines… God’s Son has been made manifest to us, and we need to listen to His Words.
While a person can certainly read and gain value from the New Testament, there are missing pieces to the puzzle without the Old. It is important to understand all the Holy Scriptures to see the picture fully. The Words of God fit together like a beautiful puzzle, and the picture will only become clear when all the pieces are in place.
About the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.” (Hebrews 1:8-9)
