In Psalm 40:3, David writes:
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Psalm 69:30 states:
I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
Psalm 81:1-2 again mentions praising Him with song:
Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob!
Begin the music, strike the timbrel, play the melodious harp and lyre.
These are just some very small examples, there are many, many more…So feel free to sing, shout, and jam out on your instruments! Or jam out on someone else's, which is what I'll be doing Saturday... !
For those of us that live near Atlanta, this upcoming Labor Day weekend is a great time to praise our Lord and Savior. There is an annual festival that my family and I attend on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend called "Celebrate Freedom" that is basically a free, all-day concert with some of the big names in Christian music.
This year, some of the many acts I'm excited to see include Crowder, Casting Crowns, Big Daddy Weave, and the Newsboys. Why am I telling you this? Well, I believe that God loves music - He created it, after all! And what better way to appreciate the gift of music than to use it to worship the Creator!
Just imagine having thousands of people who (mostly) don't know each other, all gathered together for the purpose of praising the same God. I believe that this Saturday, we will make God smile.... And I hope the praise and worship is so loud that all of Atlanta is shaken!
But let’s not limit our praise to only special occasions or concerts – we should be in a consistent mode of praise to our Maker! You can praise Him out loud or silently, with speech and with song, with instruments or without.
Come and let’s all be Psalm 150 people!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord! (Psalm 150:6)
