I think these verses resonate even more when I consider that Christ did this for me, personally. Of course, He did it for everyone, but when I put a personal spin on it, the meaning seems more crucial – it cuts more deeply. Try it out - put these verses in personal context – read it like this: He suffered for my sins!
Here is an excerpt from Isaiah 53:4-7 that I’ve adjusted to put in personal context:
Surely He took up my pain
and bore my suffering,
yet I considered Him punished by God,
stricken by Him, and afflicted.
But He was pierced for my transgressions,
He was crushed for my iniquities;
the punishment that brought me peace was on Him,
and by His wounds I am healed.
Like a sheep, I have gone astray,
I have turned to my own way;
and the Lord has laid on Him
my iniquity.
Putting verses about the wonderful and heart-wrenching work of the Messiah into personal context in Isaiah and Psalms (among others) is a great way to remember what He did for each of us.
