“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
We are like the branch on the pear tree. Our only hope to produce good things – to do what we were created for – is to remain in the tree. Remove the branch and there will be a slow withering away until we are completely useless.
“If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers” (John 15:6)
How useless is a pear tree that never produces a pear? This is us without Jesus – we are just branches separated from the source, unable to fulfill our purpose.
“This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” (John 15:8)
