This verse calls us “His workmanship”. What a glorious title! When you look in the mirror, know that you are looking at the very workmanship of God! We are truly ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’!
Also in this verse, we are told that God prepared good works for us - opportunities for us to give him glory! In fact, Paul tells us that we were created for such works. Before you or I even existed on this earth, God had already planned for us to be reborn in Christ, and also planned out already what good works He would give us the opportunity to perform.
It is truly staggering to think about this: For every person that ever lived, God developed a very detailed and specific plan. Clearly, this is one of the advantages of being outside of time – He is not constrained (by anything)!
So yes, we should walk in good works. When we do that, we are walking the path that God has laid out for us. This also explains why Jesus says the pathway that leads to heaven is narrow, but the highway to hell is broad. How many people do you see around you who are walking the path of good works?
We are God’s handiwork – each and every one of us. And God wants us to follow in His Son’s footsteps! Jesus was full of good works while walking on this earth, and we are made to do the same!
