There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. So the one who fears has not reached perfection in love. (1 John 4:18)
Are you afraid? This is a wholly natural emotion, and at the same time, an unholy emotion. You see, when we are confident in the love we have in God, and the power of our mighty Lord, we will not fear even in the most horrific circumstances.
2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self-control.”
And yet, which one of us has never been afraid? We fear heartache, pain, loneliness, and loss. These are normal human feelings in a broken world. What happens when fear comes is we let it push away our faith.
I am afraid of things that may adversely affect my family, but if I believe that God is ultimately in control, and that He means no harm to me, and that His perfect plan is truly good - then even if the most heart-wrenching thing imaginable occurs, I may grieve and yet be wholly (and holy) unafraid.
You shall not be scared of them; for the Lord your God is among you, a great and awesome God. (Deuteronomy 7:21)
