The Lord gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
with the victorious power of his right hand. (Psalm 20:6)
I fly a lot for my job, and occasionally also for pleasure (not the flying part, but the destination). In all my travels on an airplane, I’ve never been interested in jumping out of one. I mean, why would I jump out of a functioning airplane?
However, if I knew the plane was not functioning properly, and you gave me a choice of using the parachute or going down with the plane, I suspect the skydiving option would suddenly be a lot more attractive!
This is our life. As a Christian, I know this world is on its way to a major crash – I’ve read how it ends, and it’s not pretty! The nosedive has started and it's a question of when, not if… So knowing that, it’s a lot easier to understand the benefit of a safe way out of the mayhem.
However, there is also a very big difference. My ‘Parachute’ is not only functional, and not only brings me to a safe landing, but also is my source of security and joy along the way. I not only feel like I must choose this Parachute, but I truly want to. After all, my Parachute is where happiness, truth, and love all originate!
Don’t go down with the plane when you have access to a Parachute that can save you!
Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,
who daily bears our burdens.
Our God is a God who saves;
from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death. (Psalm 68:19-20)
