One morning some time ago, I woke up to a refrigerator door that had been open all night. Upset by the waste and potential for a costly repair bill if the motor burned out from running needlessly to try and keep things cold, my irritation (and probably blood pressure) began to increase.
Being a dad, I naturally had to throw a few darts out there to my kids (I actually knew which one was to blame for this but chose not to make it obvious). After the obligatory comment about not appreciating things, not being responsible, and ‘throwing money down the toilet’, I decided it was time to get my anger in check….which meant it was time to finally see what my Father (God) might have to say to me.
In the first two bible verses that came up, I was provided with a good reminder:
This is the day the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24-25)
Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. (Galatians 5:25)
Rejoice and let the Spirit put things in perspective… Yessir, message received!
Soon after, the guilty child came to me, admitted to being the one to not close the door properly, and asked forgiveness, which I readily gave. As a father, I strive to teach my children to be respectful, responsible, and honest. When they fail, I want them to recognize it and come to me seeking forgiveness, knowing that I love them and want what’s best for them.
God is the Perfect Father. He never loses perspective or needs reminders to be grateful and rejoice. He loves His children more than I can possibly love my own – more than I can even fathom. He wants us to love Him, trust Him, and know that He wants only what is best for us.
Rejoice in every day, and let the Spirit be your guide. Message Received!
