According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin. (Psalm 51:1-2)
I can’t speak for you, but I feel like this is me every day… Begging for God’s mercy, because I know how far short I fall.
“Every day?”, you may exclaim with surprise… Yes, by my reckoning - remember what James said?
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them. (James 4:17)
Or how about King David in Psalms?
They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one. (Psalm 14:3)
Every day, we make decisions. Think about every decision we make – every thought – every word we speak that is selfish, without love, that does not glorify our Creator…
So yes, every day... But thank God that He has made a way for you and I, so we can pray to Him as the Psalmist did, and how all the followers of Christ continue to do:
Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:9-10)
