If someone reacts towards me in a way I consider rude, I get upset. But do I know what is going on in that persons life at this moment in time? No idea... When I cut in front of someone in traffic, it’s because I’m in a hurry… when someone does it to me, it’s because they are a horrible person… This is seeing the world through ‘Me-Colored Glasses’.
When we pray for God to show us the world through His eyes, and with His love, we are not so quick to judge others. I can suddenly have empathy and forgiveness for the person that cut me off in traffic, or bumped into me at the store.
It is only my reaction that I have control over - not their action. In fact, my reaction to their action may be what causes their next action, for good or ill. Do I smile and let them through, or do I push back?
My perspective is inherently skewed - I see everything through 'Me-Colored Glasses’. It takes consistent prayer and maturity in the way of Christ to be able to react differently - and that can make all the difference.
Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. (1 Corinthians 4:5a)
