In addition, I am not superstitious. I don’t have lucky socks or carry a rabbit’s foot. I also don’t think there is anything worrisome about black cats or the number 13. In fact, one of the most wonderful and well-remembered verses in the entire Bible is chapter 13 verse 13. This ‘lucky’ verse was written by a greatly blessed man - although he wouldn’t have looked very blessed from the outside looking in.
The truth is, by human standards, Paul was much ‘luckier’ when he was a Pharisee – rich, pampered, and respected. However, his heart was full of derision and hate for the followers of Jesus, and he tried hard to eradicate them. It wasn’t until he had a personal encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus that his luck truly changed.
So, as we find this beautiful verse written by the Apostle Paul, we remember that our external appearance is just a costume – it’s what is going on in our heart that really matters.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)
