However, I want to start the focus at the very beginning of the ‘love chapter’. Verses 1-2 are not as well-known, but are incredibly deep and meaningful:
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
I can see these 2 verses being spoken directly to Satan himself: “Lucifer, you may be able to speak with the tongues of men and angels; be able to understand mysteries and have great knowledge; be able to even perform what men would consider miracles, but you have no love…so you are NOTHING!
Let me also remember that only through Jesus do we find real Love, and without the love that comes directly from the Great I AM…. I am nothing.
This (and every) year should be filled with:
Prayer – that I will be drawn closer to Him and can be an instrument for His Kingdom
Repentance – for my sin-filled human flesh and my pride that causes me to stumble
Gratefulness – for the Mercy, Grace, and multiple blessings that He has bestowed
Humility – recognizing that though I may be the most undeserving of sinners, yet even I can be a recipient of Christ’s sacrifice
You see, all of these things – in fact, everything – are just a way to live out His Love. THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS LOVE. If everyone lived lives filled with love, there would be no violence, no hunger, no depression… think about what that world could be like! Now multiply the best world you can imagine by infinity, and you might get close to how wonderful Heaven will be.
This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (1 John 4:10)
