The word ‘light’ is one of those fun English-isms that uses the same spelling for more than one meaning. A load may be light to carry, and you may walk into a room and turn on a light. I think everyone understands that Jesus here is speaking of the first ‘light’ - His burden is not heavy.
But we could also say that Christ’s burden was light in another way:
“While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (Jesus speaking in John 9:5)
Jesus called himself the “light of the world”. But notice He also said, “while I am in the world”. This brings us to the next point of light – us. We are to be a light to this dark world.
“You are the light of the world” (Jesus speaking in Matthew 5:15)
So then, while Jesus was walking on this earth, He was the Light of the world. Now, we are to pick up His light burden, and bring light to this world in His Name. Our world is growing more dim every day, and we must step out and shine the Light of Jesus Christ for all to see.
