“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today." (Matthew 6:31-34)
I think we can all agree “today’s trouble” is unlike anything we’ve seen… SARS, MERS, or H1N1 never shut down the entire world. Is God sending us a sign? And if so, what is He saying?
What if it’s about focus – as in, how many people are too focused on the frivolous?
Always watching sports, going to a show or the next party? These have all been pushed away from us for some as yet unknown period of time. Our ‘idols’ are gone from us - celebrities are not working, athletes are not working, and thankfully even the porn industry is at a standstill because of COVID.
So I have to ask….. What if we are actually being given a gift here? What if this is a sabbath rest for our world? Like the year of Jubilee (year of rest) that God spoke of? According to the Book of Leviticus, during the year of Jubilee slaves and prisoners would be freed, debts would be forgiven, and the mercies of God would be particularly manifest.
What if this is an opportunity for us to adjust our focus and learn to trust God? People don’t look for answers when everything is going great – they look when uncertainty comes. God uses trials and tribulation to prepare those who cling to Him for something better.
People of God should not look at this as a time to panic or worry. We should look at this with excitement, knowing that God is working on something big. Focus on Jesus, and get ready for what’s next!
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” (Revelation 21:4-5)
