Am I simply hear to do whatever makes me feel good in the moment, because there is no long-term benefit or punishment? Is it okay for me to be a mean-spirited, spiteful, and selfish human because this life is all we’ve got and I might as well get all I can? Does giving my time, love, and money to another mean nothing in the big scheme of things?
No! There is coming a day when everything we do and say will be weighed. In that day, we will find that the worst of us fall far short of the goal – the very best of us only marginally better but still not even close. Only trusting in and following Jesus will get us to Heaven.
However, even though our good deeds cannot get us even close to the goal line, they do have an impact on this world and eternity. In Heaven, our unselfish acts and generosity are stored – our treasure. In Hell, we get what we truly deserve because we denied the only One who could save us.
In that day, everything we think we know will be seen in it’s true light – and only our faith in Christ and our good deeds will follow us into eternity.
It shall be said in that day, “Behold, this is our God! We have waited for him, and he will save us! This is the Lord. We have waited for him. We will be glad and rejoice in his salvation!” (Isaiah 25:9)
