He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20)
And of course, since Jesus said it, we know that this is true. Again, we “have so little faith”. Even the people we would consider giants of the faith must seem to have such a small seed of faith inside them from the heavenly viewpoint.
When Jesus refers to ‘this mountain’, it seems likely He was pointing to Mt. Tabor, which is where the preceding verses described the Transfiguration that Peter, James, and John witnessed.
The mountain Jesus was not referring to is Mount Zion, as it is apparently going nowhere.
Those who trust in the Lord are as Mount Zion, which can’t be moved, but remains forever. (Psalm 125:1)
If the Word of God says I can move mountains with my faith, I certainly believe Him… it is up to me to continue working to strengthen my faith. Also, if the Word says Mt. Zion will remain forever, I believe that.
Go use your faith and move mountains for this world (but skip those that are immovable)!
