“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23a)
This is a straightforward statement, with several examples of ‘If-Then’ type statements.
If;
You love Jesus
Then;
You will do what He says
If;
You do what He says
Then;
The Father will ALSO love you (NOTE: along with the ‘if-then’, don’t miss the ‘also’ in this statement – meaning you will have the love of both the Son and the Father)
If;
The Father and Son love you
Then;
They will come make Their home with you.
The problem with ‘If-Then’ statements is that you have to fulfill the ‘If’ before you get the ‘Then’. But - the great thing about them is once you have fulfilled the ‘If’, the ‘Then’ is guaranteed!
Just a couple verses later, Jesus leaves us with a great promise:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
A promise of a peace that the world can never give, to keep us comforted until the day comes when Jesus returns for His own. So don't be troubled or afraid, because if He has given us a promise of sharing in His Victory (and He has), then we have nothing to fear!
